35th Annual La Posada
Padre Island celebrates La Posada
The annual La Posada celebration is marking its 35th year on Padre Island. Your La Posada Committee has worked hard to bring the community another week of free events to ring in the season.
Sat., Dec. 5: Breakfast with Santa, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Padre Island, 9 to 11 a.m. at Saint Andrews by the Sea Family Life Center, 14235 Encantada. Children and their parents will be served pancakes, sausage, juice and milk and have an opportunity to talk to Santa. This event is free but children are encouraged to donate an unwrapped toy.
Dec. 7 and 8: Residential and business holiday decorations will be judged. No pre-registration necessary.
Wed., Dec. 9: Ice Cream with Santa, 5 to 6:30 p.m., Seashore Learning Center’s Coral Reef Building, 15801 S.P.I.D.
Thurs., Dec. 10: Cookies with Santa, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Seashore Learning Center’s gymnasium.
Fri., Dec. 11: Lighted Boat Parade, 6:30 p.m. staging near Puenta Vista Condominiums. Parade starts at 7 p.m. in the Commodores Cove section of the Island.
Sat., Dec. 12: Lighted Boat Parade, 5:30 p.m. staging at the Caravel Drive and Whitecap Blvd. boat ramp. Parade starts at 6 p.m. The Padre Island Yacht Club will have a community open house where guests can view the parade from the club’s decks.
This is the 12th year the Lighted Boat Parades have benefited the Toys for Tots program. This is usually one of the largest single collections all season. Many Island residents host La Posada Lighted Boat Parade-watching parties along the parade route, gathering with friends who bring unwrapped gifts for the Toys for Tots program of the Marine Corps Reserve. Collector boats, staffed by local boaters and a military representative, will stop at docks along the routes.
About La Posada on Padre Island
La Posada is funded through donations and fundraising of the Island Foundation’s La Posada Committee. Again this year, the committee will raffle off two Christmas trees and other prizes. Seashore Learning Center and Seashore Middle Academy students competed in a contest held earlier this year to design the La Posada T-Shirt. The winning design was done by Aubrey Banda, a 5th-grader at Seashore Middle Academy. The shirts are sold as part of the fundraising efforts of the La Posada Committee. T-shirts are on sale at Re/Max Padre Island. For more information about La Posada events or T-shirts sales, please call James Chrobocinski at 876-4831 or james@ccfuture.com
